Your mission

You will lead a well-established and mature UX research team to the next level of impact. Your committed leadership will inspire your team to:

  • Collaboratively shape the future product vision of our wildly successful e-Commerce destination by championing research insights, embedding research in product design and deepening the whole company’s understanding of customers.
  • Consult new ventures, partner solutions and enterprise software teams on usability as well as exploratory user research methods.
  • Advance Zalando’s product design maturity and move the company to become even more customer-centric, innovative and scientifically rigorous.
  • Define which qualitative and quantitative customer experience data we should track (when and how) in order to support sustainable future business growth.
  • Internationalize (and/or localize) our user insights so that Zalando products feel native in each key market.

In the lead role, you will particularly

  • Shape Zalando’s user experience strategy.
  • Establish a research agenda, define project and product priorities and oversee all research efforts across products.
  • Consult researchers on the most suitable research methodologies for each context.
  • Set challenging goals for the team aligned to a long-term vision -- and help the team exceed expectations.
  • Foster collaboration with product analytics departments and set up a framework of how to combine qualitative and quantitative insights.
  • Carry full personnel responsibilities for a team of 5 UX researchers.
  • Foster team culture and engage with the individual researchers to keep each one healthy and happy, curious and open, thriving and growing in their career.

Your track record

You will bring deep knowledge and experience in delivering impactful user research -- actionable insights that improve the product, change the business, and inspire designers. You understand user-centered design and have deep empathy with designers, product managers and other business stakeholders.

You have held the full spectrum of responsibility for leading people. You inspire and mentor junior and senior researchers.

But we don’t want to start the conversation with a checklist of requirements. You tell us what is needed to deliver on the mission we’ve laid out and why you fit the bill. We will ask you to tell stories about (and ideally show raw artifacts from) your previous work. Demonstrate to us where you have succeeded (and failed) in the past.
